Why is it that when there is unintentional chemistry or even intentional UST I am so ready to jump on board, but the second people try to write actual relationships in the SG world I get so damn uncomfortable?  I mean...Ronon and Keller, yes omg.  Like from the first moment I saw them on screen together (and how much do I love accidental chemistry on a show when the writers are savvy enough to play with what they get?  But I don't really want to get into forced chemistry *cough*johnandteyla*cough* and how I find that annoying). 

I was thrilled to see all the random pairings in Quarantine, just because my shippy brain loves nothing more than to turn completely innocuous moments into OMGLOOKATTHEEYESEX!  For example:

• Zelenka almost blew his little scientist mind when Sam went into ubersmart geek mode AND pulled her jacket off to show sweaty!cleavage.  I could almost see his IQ dribbling out of his ears.  There will be much back slapping and waggling eyebrows in the science labs for a while.  "You were trapped in a transporter with Colonel Carter?!"  He's doubly a hero for a while I am sure.  "Yeah, yeah, you turned off the self-destruct.  Tell us again how fast she wrote that code and exactly how many layers of clothing she took off.  Only speak slower this time."
• The Teyla and John friendship stuff was of the awesome and I was happy to see some actual reason for John's super over protectiveness and him finally turning into the supportive friend he's meant to be.  Now that the platonic nature of their relationship has become practically canon, now I see chemistry.  Lol.
  
• And yes, for some reason my brain can still ship Lorne with anything with a pulse (or otherwise).  Chuck or the girl-with-lines-but-no-name.  Or heck, Lorne/C-4.  I swear that Lorne's mere presence is enough to make an entire episode for me. *fangirls* Something about his quizzical brow...
  
• The Rodney and Katie stuff was nice and sad and believable, but, as sweet as she is, I don't get the 'she's-the-perfect-balance-for-Rodney's-insanity' vibe from her. She is interesting for exploring Rodney's character and teaching him to be a bit more human.  Sort of a necessary step in the evolutionary chain. She's taking on a huge project, or rather she had.  I'm not the only one who heard a break up in that "goodbye," right?  Maybe my comfort with this relationship has as much to do with the seemingly temporary nature as much as Katie's minor character status (less need for constant drama and reversals to keep our interest. And, plus, she's not around enough to get in the way of other pairings).
  

But Ronon and Keller... I wanted it to be fabulous, but it didn't quite work for me.  Almost!  Just not quite.  Why?  Ok, it's no secret that Jason Momoa is hot as fondue and no one does action scenes better.  He's even great at the ironic glances, the catchy quips and one liners.  But, come on, let's just admit it, he's not a thespian.  I am completely willing to overlook this.  But you put him in a shippy scene that demands nuance and a light touch?  I'm not ready to blame him entirely, though.  Let's face it, the Stargate Crew has a history of heavy-handedness when it comes to canon relationships.  I mean, I have been a S/J ship whore since almost the very first moment I heard of Stargate, but Threads still makes me wince and cover my face, no matter how many times I torture myself rewatching.  And I know the wedding scene in 200 was supposed to make me groan and feel embarrassed, but GEEZ.  I'm not sure if it makes me a strange S/J OTPer, but I will be most pleased to never see true resolution in any form in canon.  Maybe it's pathetic, or a sign of my overactive imagination, but Sam having that framed photo of Jack in her luggage is enough for me.  My muse will fill in the rest.

Plus, maybe it's your naughty influence, flisters, but I get a kick out of seeing little moments between almost every pairing you could possibly make.  I rewatched Evolution the other day after Trout was squeeing about it and DAMN.  This ep is like one giant eye!sex orgy.  There's the Sam and Jack moment when he comes to tell her he's going after Daniel.  There's the earlier moment when they first find out Daniel is missing and they are looking at each other and I just started squeeing at the screen and yelling "They're worried about their Daniel!"  Total OT3 moment.  And please, Jack going after Daniel (and not just any Daniel....sweaty, dirty, armp0rn Daniel).  And Sam taking care of Reynolds.  Ok.  I think you get the point.  I lap up UST like crazy, even when 70-90% of it is completely in my overactive imagination.  But actual moments of RST or an attempt at canon relationships or resolution?  Just, no.

It's possible my discomfort stems more from my personal preference for romantic subtlety and nuance, than a general fault of Stargate in general.  I am, after all, a complete fan of the Austen romance where all you often get is a lingering glance or a brushing of hands.  Whatever the source of my general discomfort, though, I think I will always be the kind of ship whore who begs for UST and innuendo.  But please to be keeping your clunky RST out of my show, m'kay?

That being said, Keller joining the cool kids' table at the end and Ronon and Keller being all obvious and John and Teyla mocking them and Ronon's indignant "What?!"?   Priceless.  Totally made up for the forced revealing of our personal traumas, you remind me of my dead girlfriend, let's almost kiss twice but get interrupted by the inevitable last minute saving of the city moments.   And Ronon totally digging her even more after she blew up an oxygen tank? Yes.  Basically if they just talked less, everything would be much better.  Lol.
