Writing Goals: 2009
I like making these lists so I have something to come back to all year and cross things off as I finish them. Makes me feel all productive and such. Plus, it makes it all seem much more manageable, having a nice, neat list like this. Hopefully the curse of never being able to finish any story once I talk about will not apply here. Lol.
1.Sweet Charity Fic.
The Raggedy Edge (Sam/Jack)
This is the year that I will finish this. I swear. I can’t really say anything about it, not even the title, because it belongs to the person who bought me and they deserve to enjoy it all to themselves, even if we can probably convince her to share it eventually. You know, if I actually finish it. 12,000 words down, zillions to go.
2. Down Here Among the Wreckage. This is the story at the top of my writing list right now (once I get the SGA ficathon piece out of the way). It got shoved aside for a while in the holiday shuffle, but most of my attention should be dedicated to it again now. Mostly I am just working on getting the majority of Part Two written (entitled: Prodigal), or at least mostly done before I start sending chapters out to beta and then get back to stringing you all along like the big meanie that I am.
3. Unnamed Day of Indulgence Fic.
The Short Straw (Sam/Jack)
I am planning on issuing the Day of Indulgence Challenge again this year, but this time around open to all fandoms, pairings, and genres, just as multifannish as the woman who this event is held in honor of: surreallis. I’m not even bothering to try and make it a surprise this year. I don’t think she’ll fall for that twice. But I think the core idea is an excellent one, giving yourself a complete carte blanche to write anything you want, to bring that deepest most indulgent kink or cliche out into the open. Keep an eye out for the announcement coming soon to an LJ near you!
4. Escape Velocity. My quasi-sequel to ‘Gravity Always Wins in The End’ that is really an excuse to write a story all about Evan Lorne. At the end of Gravity, I left Lorne to deal with what must be one of the most horrible things in the Stargate Universe: the loss of his entire team, or more specifically, being the only survivor that leaves him, the commander, wondering how he managed to fail so spectacularly to protect the people whose lives had been given to his care. How do you pick back up and move on? Is it even possible? I’ve also always been interested in exploring the dynamic of a hero, a soldier, trying to reintegrate into life on Earth when most people don’t have the smallest clue what they experienced out on the front lines.
5. DC Series. I have at least four more of these started, with a zillion more plot bunnies waiting in the wings. I half suspect that this series is also serving as my antidote to angst overload (see #2 above), which bodes well for the series continuing apace.
6.
galpalficathon entry.
Surrogate (Cassie and Vala friendship)
I actually have this story mostly written, but as it involves two Stargate characters that never shared the screen, I am a bit iffy about it. But hey, I figure I’m this late already, what’s another few months? I’m going to leave it to marinate.
7. Sequel to a certain fic that shall remain nameless. Please, please, please can I write a sequel? Maybe once I finish Wreckage? Usually I already have sequels to most fics at least percolating in my mind by the time I post the original fic, but I rarely follow through, so quickly am I distracted by new shinies. I would very much like to finish one though, and I have one or two particular ones in mind. I might not even be picky about which one. I just want a chance to revisit a couple stories that I never wanted to leave in the first place. Feel free to cast your votes. Lol.
8. Unnamed ‘Unending’ Tag. This is one that has been floating around in my mind for a while, something that will deal with all the fallout of ‘Unending’, as observed from Vala’s point of view. Much like Teal’c, I always imagine Vala as seeing and understanding a lot more than most people give her credit. It’s instinct for her, to hoard and file observations away, like currency. When it’s actually her friends, people she's allowed herself to trust, she doesn’t much know what to do with it.
9. Unnamed Teal’c Fic. This is a story I promised to write ages ago and have been slowly picking at forever. It’s Teal’c/Sam UST and something I never thought I would write, but I really do want to finish it at some point. Very experimental, as you might imagine.
10. That Persistent Original Fic Idea. I’m sort of curious to see if I can do it, write a novel length story from scratch. Here’s to trying.
11. Revise NaNo 2007. I can’t quite let go of that messy pile of 50,000 words, nor the cast of characters. I’d love to do them all justice and edit it into a readable story. I think I need to let go of the idea of a commercial novel and think of it more as if it were fanfic. I keep putting original fic in this separate, higher category such that my muse freezes up at the very thought of rules and correct lengths and doing it properly, whatever the hell that might mean. Get over yourself, NaNo novel. ;)
12.
sg_rarepairings ficathon. Yes, this is the year I will finally get to participate in this. I really hope. I would like to try writing a few new pairings and this will certainly help with that!

And as for DC, it's great fun to always have that one sitting around, making my other uber darkfic easier to survive. lol

You know, I often think of this, especially because in canon, they're always red-shirting the rest of Lorne's team and making him be the sole survivor. Not that I want him dead, but that's got to be traumatic.
Oh crap, DC series isn't done?

I'm not sure the DC Series will ever be 'done' per se. I have been writing each one as much as a stand alone as possible (and hell, I already have one ficlet in my head during Continuum so...) But thanks for the nom. That is so nice of you. :)
