Fanfic is Real!

I've been thinking about how you can love a fic so much or just read it so much that eventually you become convinced that you actually saw it rather than read it. Or maybe it just feels so damn right it gets stuck in your head. Not just adopting them as personal fanon, but becoming certain they are canon. So here's a short list from me: Five Scenes I'm Convinced Happened in Canon.

Octagonal by [livejournal.com profile] splash_the_cat  (Pre-Series, gen)

These glimpses of back story of the eight main characters of the show have completely wormed their way into my brain. Particularly the Teal'c one, but all of them really.

Excerpt:

They held him down because he would not stay still. Days later, the shame of his weakness still burned in Teal'c's gut, coiled with pride and fear and the god he now carried inside him.

His mother said little, but his father followed him into the hills one afternoon and sat beside him, stretching long legs out on the grass. "It is not an easy gift," his father said, and ruffled Teal'c's hair. "But we are blessed as no other can claim."

Teal'c nodded, choking on the bile that rose in his throat when the god in his belly shifted.

Bechdel Fix-It Series by [livejournal.com profile] dsudis  (Season 1, gen with mention of canon and peripheral ships)

These fics are wonderful, often fleshing out nameless women in the background or even inventing new ones in order to pass Bechdel's Test. Lots of great Sam and Sha're scenes as well. I fell in love with dsudis' version of the nameless woman taken from the SGC in 'Children of the Gods', so much so that when I was writing a fic that required a name for this character, I had to email her and ask to use the name she'd given.

Excerpt from Common Language:

They'd let her keep her dog tags, at least, even when they stripped her naked and replaced her fatigues with this flimsy nightgown. She sat in the corner and closed her cold hands around her tags, watching the other women and the door and trying to think of what she was supposed to do next.

She was Sergeant Jessica Hoyt, United States Air Force, and she had a feeling they didn't give a damn about her name or rank or serial number. She hadn't had counter-interrogation training--she was as rear echelon a motherfucker as there'd ever been--but she was pretty sure frilly lingerie meant the hostiles didn't want you for intel.

Overwhelming Coolness by JoJo (Season 6, Humor, Team, Gen)

You just know that SG-1 isn't always as cool as we see on screen. I love this hilarious fic for its wonderful characterizations, its snappy dialog, and its premise. Even though SG-1 will never admit it happened, I am convinced it did.

Excerpt:

The huge-black-hairy-spiders dance of fear was probably something the four members of SG-1 never, ever wanted anyone to ever find out about.

Ever.

Five Conversations Daniel Never Had by [livejournal.com profile] teand  (Season 9, Humor, Gen-even though it's all about sex, lol)

Despite the title of the fic, this so happened. Because Vala would be just this evil and the rest of the team would totally have so much fun tormenting Daniel about it.

Excerpt:

"Jackson! Wait up."

Stuck at the elevator without a choice, Daniel jabbed at the call button one more time as Colonel Mitchell jogged up to join him.

"So, I hear I'm not your type."

"What?"

"Not that I mind." Grinning broadly, he followed Daniel into the elevator and as the door closed on the two of them, added, "I mean, if I was into guys, which I'm not, but if I was, you wouldn't be my type either. It'd be too much like…" Head cocked to one side, he indicated their reflections in the stainless steel walls. "…masturbating."

Noticing by Claira (Sam/Jack UST)

I am convinced this conversation happened at some point.

Excerpt:

"I notice, Carter," he told her, his heart hammering. She looked back into the fire. "But if you need - someone else - to notice, I understand."

Oh, what a lovely idea for a meme! "Personal canon," yes. :)

FWIW, I'm pretty convinced that the entirety of 'Serendipity' happened. And, for that matter, the DC series. Yes, even though that doesn't work.

I agree with Pepper:)

Yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes. *g* This would be fun to do for myself, too! I know I have a few things that could easily be on my list besides these fics.

When I read your post, the first thing that came to mind was your DC series! That is what actually happened behind the scenes of season 9.

Another one is a missing scene for the Firefly episode Out of Gas: http://vivfic.livejournal.com/16930.html

I must go read your suggestions now...

Personally, I will also say Serendipity. I just love that fic to pieces.

Oh, I like this game! I might have to play myself.

Also, the huge-black-hairy-spiders dance of fear totally happened.
