I seem to have caught the plague. It's no fun. I mean, who likes to be sick, right? But usually I take illness as a sign from my body that I need a day or two of total wallow and relaxation. Only this is that one where you have no appetite and can't sleep and standing makes everything go dizzy. NOT COOL. What fun is staying home all day if you can't sleep for years and eat comfort food, or at least write fic? (Though I *may* have hallucinated an ending to the next chapter of my Ginny fic last night while I was not sleeping.) At least today I am upright enough to type on my laptop. So, how have I been keeping myself sane? Elizabeth Chadwick's Greatest Knight and The Scarlet Lion (omg, Isabelle, I love you.) Quite enjoyable reads, though as typical of historical fiction, there is a certain predictability and lack of...style in the books. (Though they would have been less predictable had I not read the afterword of the first book before reading the second. Lol.) Overall well done though. Other than that? Well, here's a hint:

OMG, streaming Netflix. You have reunited me with one of my childhood obsessions. The Young Riders! Josh Brolin, yum. God this show is cheesy, revisionist, white man apologetic, goofy, man-candy wonderfulness.

Ok. Time to lie down again before I pass out. Time for the next ep!

I used to want to be Lou when I grew up. Sadly, Netflix doesn't carry YR here (but I can finally catch the last three episodes of Firefly I missed)

That is the suckiest kind of sick day, when you are too sick to enjoy it. Get better. :)

Aw, too bad! Though I think it's funny that I remember all of the characters except Kid, who seems to have completely slipped my mind, and he's supposed to be the 'main character', 'central hero' guy. Probably why I find him so boring. (And a little self-righteous.) But, there is horse riding and shoot outs and chivalry and Teaspoon keeps buying new fangled things like bicycles and baseball sets. God love this show.

I've been reading those books and they are okay. I did love love love Exit The Actress for the way the story is told alone - it's about Nell Gwynn and Charles the Second.

I know I've mentioned it before, but am "friends" with Sharon Kay Penman on Facebook and I recently got to comment on a raging debate between her and Elizabeth Chadwick on changing characters to fit modern sensibilities. It was awesome.

Yeah, I don't fault the books, it's more that historical fiction isn't quite my favorite type of novel. But they are good solid, enjoyable books. I kind of feel like finally getting around to reading Penman's Sunne in Splendor now. Wonder if it's on kindle?

I'm sorry you're sick. And the whole not being able to sleep and not wanting to eat is very sucky. I hope you recovery quickly!

Oh, I how I adored the Young Riders!! I saw it on netflix a little while ago, and had a little quibble, but passed on over it.

Still slogging along here. Blerg.

Heh. You should watch just the pilot one day. The nostalgia might just knock you over. :D

I'm just getting over the "plague" so i know exactly how you feel. Oy. Worst week like EVER! Hope you get better soon. Sincerely. Just from that pic, i can tell that show is full of eye-candy goodness, but I have no idea who the Young Riders are (yes, thats proof that 24 IS still too young lol)

God, I wish my week was done. Feeling slightly better, but no where near as quickly as I would like. Luckily I am now up to sitting at a computer and sometimes words are even coming. So who am I to complain?

Young Riders is definitely an eye-candy show. A lot of bad boys with good hearts. Plus, late 80s cheese for good measure. Fun times!

Wow, this is weird. I learned about this show only a couple of weeks ago :) I've been trying to find clips of it online. They're pretty difficult to come by though the first series is still available on DVD which is pleasing and somewhat tempting :) Hope you continue to enjoy it and I really hope that you feel much better soon.

Apparently there is quite the fandom. I read some pretty hilarious interviews with the actors like decades later, and the fans asking all these intent questions and the actors being all 'it was AGES ago, I don't remember. why would I?' Hahah. Ah, it must have been a different beast entirely to be an actor in a genre show pre-internet. Lol.

Thanks! Still not great, but at least sitting up at the computer from time to time. Sigh.

I'm being insulted for being young! AGE DISCRIMINATION!

Yikes! Sorry to hear about the being sick with the plague. I have intimate knowledge with feeling crappy these days, so I can commiserate. I hope you feel better soon!

(This is the former xenontetroxide, by the way. When I went through and added people to my new journal, I wasn't feeling that great, and didn't really pursue the people who never noticed I added them. But now! I'm...still not feeling that great. But will you add me back? I mean, you don't have to, if you'd rather not, but I very much enjoy reading your fic recs (I've discovered so many fandoms and good fic through you) and fics, so I'll still keep you as a friend even if it's not reciprocated. I just wanted to give you a little nudge in case you never noticed my new journal.

*hugs*

Ah, hello! I am very very bad with LJ name switches. It takes me months and months to get it all straightened out in my head. Lol. I'll do my best. And of course you can friend. I honestly don't even have the alerts set up because I don't believe in friending and defriending drama. Or I'm just clueless. Take your pick. :D Happy new journal!
