A few years ago, I was writing Queen of Swords fic and really enjoying it. Then, on fanfiction.net, this woman started leaving essays on every part, with all the things she thought were wrong with it. So I very polity PMed her and suggested that if she found my writing so wanting, perhaps she could find something else to read she'd like more. She replied in a fit telling me she'd never had anyone go off on her when she was trying to be helpful. I was boggled. I also stopped posting on ff.net, and it sucked the joy out of the story and I never finished it. I hate that I let it affect me like it did, but it was so upsetting.
