lorne/novak- This is the stupid cutest of all pairings in the Stargate universe. I think first creation rights have to go to
zeplum, who wrote this little fic: The Kissing Ficlet. But then
kellifer_fic got in on the game (for which I am thankful every day) with her Relationship from Scratch Series. The first one, Moved to Distraction, is one of my all time favorite fics. Why do I love this pairing? You mean beside the fact that I love Lorne and will read him paired with anyone? (What a manwhore. But he is MeantToBe with Novak. :P) I think this pair is cute and lacks all of the deep seated angst and emotional crippling of Sam/Jack. I love my Sam/Jack, but sometimes you just want to read about people with a hope and a prayer to actually pull everything together. It's a bit surprising because I am usually such a boring canonwhore, but this is one pairing we will never see on the show. In fact, I am beginning to doubt we will ever see either character on the show again at all! *wails* But Lorne/Novak fic always leaves me with one strong impression: Dawwwwww.....
team!love- This does not, as it may sound, refer to OT4 or such, but simply the fact that even though I am shippy writer 99.9% of the time, I don't like to ignore the team. I like to write fic that can have a certain ship in it, but not sideline the other characters because of that. Plus, this is reference to the fact that I have never understood the need for various camps to vilify a certain characters in defense of their 'ship or whatever. Why do people always feel so threatened? Why can't they just be comfortable with their own thoughts/feelings/beliefs without needing to vilify someone or campaign to make sure Everyone Agrees With Me. Agree with yourself. That should be enough.
fandom- I am relatively new to fandom and didn't even know of its existence three years ago. Because of this, I am endlessly fascinated with the very concept, let alone the way we translate social codes and mores into a virtual realm and make up our own rules and rituals. I find the human impulse to create community in whatever realm we interact amazing, even if also frightening in its impulse to create factions. We can only feel comfortable in our communities if we can mark boundaries and create identity by juxtaposing ourselves against an Other. I am this, not that. There are some amazing things happening in fandom, but there is also wank. The universal pastime.

I made this as part of a series of Teal'c icons when I was first learning how to really use photoshop. Teal'c is really the most tragic of the characters in Stargate if you really think about it. He's given so much up and doesn't really belong anywhere because he has become so much of a hybrid. But at the same time, there is almost a sort of selfishness to playing the martyr. He doesn't belong anywhere, but he also doesn't have to play by anyone's rules and he can justify keeping anyone at a distance because of that (I suddenly have Teal'c and Ishta in my head and they're having a lover's spat, but Ishta is finally saying the things no one else ever could. Ack!). I think he is fascinating and I definitely need to write more Teal'c fic. (Everyone does!)

I think 'outcast' pretty much describes Vala. She is another one of those characters who has never fit in anywhere (except maybe, finally, SG-1, the band of misfits. :) The scenes with Vala while she was in the Ori galaxy, the first time with Daniel and the second time with Tomin, just some great Vala moments. Absolutely horrifying and heartbreaking. And the way she deals with them....argh. Just fantastic. (Obviously Vala has completely won me over from the very beginning.)

I think I made this in honor of surrealphantast and others who were having a horrible time finishing their darkfic ficahton entries. I had just watched this episode of The West Wing where Tobey has horrible writer's block and has this great speech about what writing means and what his process is. And when he nonchalantly lights his latest speech attempt on fire, I totally related. Maybe it's a little reminder that ficathons make everyone crazy and not to worry too much about it. What masochists we all are! Lol.
P.S. Watched Lord of the Rings again over the last week. Can I PLEASE have an Eomer of my very own?! Please?! When he gets on that horse and bellows, "Now is the hour! Riders of Rohan! Oaths you have taken, now fulfill them all, to lord and land!" Gah... *melts*
Whoops! Late, gotta run!
P.P.S. "LJ?! Why are you such a little beeyatch sometimes? Huh?" Translated as: I had to rewrite this post far too many times.

Yesyesyes. You should. You really should. I love those two - they understand each other, because they're both leaders, and Jaffa, but she sticks stubbornly to her own ideas, and he's convinced he's right, and neither is shy of saying so... They're gorgeous together.
And I've always loved that 'My ficathon entry may be a little late' icon. I totally related, even before I joined a ficathon. And now I really, really relate. *g*
(If you have Eomer, can I have Faramir? Or, er, either Merry or Pippin. Or both. *g*)

Sounds good to me. Well, the hobbit fetish doesn't sound exactly good, but whatever floats your boat. Lol.
I wish I could write Teal'c fic. I just....have a horribly difficult time with him in fics most of the time. He deserves better.
