After having a conversation with [personal profile] holdouttrout and [personal profile] lyssie , I had the idea to make today the International Airing of Dirty Secrets Day. It started out as a tongue-in-cheek admission of all my fanfic sins, but I was a little surprised where it went from there.  Some funny, some earnest, but all true!  :)   Image heavy!

EDIT: If you want to post your secrets in the comments or your journal, go for it! Air that dirty laundry. :)

Ooh, I love these! This should totally be a meme!

Also, briefing room table porn. Mmmmmmm.

Go for it! I would love to see your secrets. :)

It was fun sitting down and trying to find all the cliche and now embarrassing things I have done in fic. I was also surprised by some of these that I felt the need to hide. I totally waffled over posting some of them for a long time. Very illuminating.

Hee!

I'm completely in favor of sex on the briefing table. Just saying!

Lol. I guess there's a reason it's a cliche, cause we all wanna see it! ;)

Heee!

much love for these!

I too post un-betaed from time to time *sheepish grin*

And LOL at the Sam pregnancy one, the expression on her face is just perfect!

Yes, we all do from time to time. Makes me think twice of ever giving anyone grief for not using one. :)

Snerk. Sam's expression totally cracks me up. I guess I should have also added the "I gave Sam and Jack a kid they didn't know about." *snorfle*

Oh, these are all fantastic and true and we adore you nonetheless. In fact, my adoration grows more because of the fantastic pics you used to illustrate your points. A+ for Annerb.

I know, off the top of my head, they've had sex on the briefing room table once. Possibly more.

The Vala and Teal'c one is painfully true.

And Pete was good for her. even if canon-wise, the writing was lame

People will probably see my Pete secret and wonder how my Sam and Jack secret can also be true, but yes.

I'd love to see your secrets. :D

Sam's expression on the "pregnant" one is perfect.

posted by [identity profile] annerbhp.livejournal.com at 05:07am on 31/01/2008
Haha. Totally. I'm not sure if she's more freaked out to be pregnant or just angry that she only got to have sex once. *snerk*

Once on one of my fics that involved Sam, Jack and Daniel pretty heavily, and in a team way, one of my betas said, "Um, where's Teal'c?" I flailed and said, "Um... On Chulak!"

Also, Pete WAS good for Sam, damn it.

I know! I love Teal'c and I *know* he's essential, he just...doesn't like to speak to me. Which makes it strange in my mind that I have an easier time grasping Ronon than Teal'c (they both are that alien warrior minority character so somehow I group them together in my head. Terrible, I know.)

Yes. Pete was good. It was also good for him to go away eventually, but good. ;)

Thanks! Picking the pictures was most of the fun.

I am so thankful you can still bear to be associated with me. :) Now stop asking me about my Mary Sue and be nice and pretend she doesn't exist. :P

Ahaha this is most excellent!

On the topic of the one that says 'I'm terrified someone in my real life will find out I write fanfiction', most of my friends in the non-computerized world know that I write fanfiction (my current roommate included) and though they might make a few half-hearted 'you're such a geek!' jabs, it's really not a traumatizing secret to have. Of course, that could also be because most of my friends are self-professed geeks and I go to a school where all the students are geeks of one persuasion or another...

I sometimes don't know what to do with Teal'c either and then I feel terrible because I like him, he's just hard to write in sometimes.

I'm glad you can be so open. I will say that once you are out of the college environment, you may feel differently. :) Yeah, Teal'c is so great and I find him fascinating, but he just doesn't talk in my head like some of the other characters do. *shrug*

i have a fake name under which i've posted x files and stargate fics which are PURELY cliche crap (haven't done it for years!).

to my disgust, they are much more popular than the stuff i *like* writing and am proud of. go figure fandom.

posted by [identity profile] annerbhp.livejournal.com at 05:32am on 31/01/2008
Wow, that *is* a fandom secret! I've tossed the idea around a few times (writing smut under a different name...lol). Very sneaky. And now we are all dying to know who. :)

You are even brilliant at cofessing your sins, lol. They are so good and the pictures you chose just cracked me up. And I just have to say, I don't write fiction but I'm terrified someone in real life (ie husband lol) will find out I read it! lol

posted by [identity profile] annerbhp.livejournal.com at 05:35am on 31/01/2008
Hahah. I wish. The pictures were fun. So was digging through some of my old fics to find my worst sins. I used to hide my reading habits from my husband, but all the clicking away every time he entered the room made him suspect porn. lol

You rock. *fangirls you*

Seriously, it takes guts to "air your dirty secrets." I still haven't come around to liking Cam Mitchell, and I feel like I'm the only person in the SG fandom who doesn't adore him. And your last one, Vala understanding Teal'c - YES.

And the pics are great!

posted by [identity profile] annerbhp.livejournal.com at 05:39am on 31/01/2008
Hah! It's kind of embarrassing, but if I can't laugh at myself and my fics, who the hell can I? ;) Cam took me some time and I was scared I was just being an unmovable Jack fan, but Cam and I finally came to an understanding.

Ah Pastry, one of my faves of your fic. I read it whenever I need a S/J pick me up.

See and here I was thinking this would be a repeat of what I read on some anonymous mom comm, where a large amount of women said that when they have the house to themselves, they usually find some lesbian p0rn and. . . , well, you know.

:D

And...wow. Those Mom discussion boards are a bit racier than I'd imagined! ;)

OMG! I can totally relate to about 80% of this (no Danny-boy, Mary sue, or briefing room table sex...rats)! Probably because I just haven't written enough fic to fulfill these requirements! What a fun idea! This would make an excellent meme! :D

You can share my Mary Sue, you *were* my beta. Lol. But I can't help you with the briefing table porn. You should get right on that (wow, no pun intended). Though it seems to me we have lost you to SGA completely! *sniff*

Hope everything is going well!

Oh, god, that's such a good idea. Hah, I've definitely done some of those. I can't remember if I've written a fic with Sam referring to Daniel as a brother, but I've probably said it on my LJ... the Mary Sue, yes... posting without a beta, all the frickin' time (but only on short fics! Because they seem like a waste of a beta's time!). And the Teal'c thing - dammit, yes. I don't want to put him in tokenistically, or for he and Daniel to be a chorus - I want his lines to have a point.

On the other hand, I'm 'out' to almost everyone (except work) about my fanfic - mostly they think it's funny. :)

posted by [identity profile] annerbhp.livejournal.com at 03:51pm on 31/01/2008
Hahah, I love how you can't admit to the sin of no beta without qualifying it. ;) Personally, I think a beta usually helps a lot, but it isn't always essential. I know this is no real judge of quality and that all I should care about is making my stories as good as they can be, but I still find it amusing that the only award I have won was for a fic I didn't have beta'd at all: Outside the Lines. And that was a looong fic. I dunno, if I could go back, maybe I would have gotten it beta'd. Meh. I think it's funny that I'm more annoyed by people saying "not beta'd, I'm too impatient" in the author notes than by people being too impatient to use betas. Does that make sense? Lol.

Leaving Daniel and Teal'c out in the cold is the most prevalent sin among us SJ people. But we try, dammit!

I'd love to see your sins! :)

OH MY GOD. I know you said you were thinking about doing this, but the reality is so much funnier than the imagination.

The briefing room table one--when I read the first part, I giggled. When I read the word "twice," I laughed out loud.

*is so doing this when she gets home*

Apart from the getting Sam pregnant one, and the Mary-Sue, I've done all of those too.

Ah screw it, I daresay I'll get over it hehehe

I think Pete was good for Sam
*hearts you* I always thought that I was the only one who believed that. She messed up a good thing, and still didn't end up with Jack. What is up with that?

Oh yeah, Jack and Sam together would be great, although I'm happy either way. And at least you've finally learned to like Cam. :) I'm still trying to, honest! As for telling others of your fanfiction accomplishments, I am the exact same way. I've been trying to "come out of the closet", but so far, I've only told three people - and two of them are the type who don't like to read anything. :) The third one would read it, which is why I haven't told him my fandom alias, or where to find my stuff. Like I said, coming out veeerrrryyy slooooowly. :D
