That's rather brilliant. It reminds me of Sam from the earlier days of SG-1, when she very much wanted to prove her worth to her team. That said, I wonder what would've happened if it had been her team with her (though her boys wouldn't die... hee). I think, if it was in the later years of SG-1, then she would've been comfortable showing her weakness, that what reluctance and regret she would have would be diminished by the comfort her team provides her (like in Death Knell, where she's not afraid to admit she needs a rest).
Of course, Sam's always been driven and ambitious -- it's one of the things I love most about her. And she works damn hard, and coming into her first position as a leader of a base, I can see her starting from scratch all over again.
It makes me think of Sam in charge of the SGC -- what would that be like?
