I find the prose thing more bizarre than anything. My daughter complains she can't sleep and I tell her to make up a story in her head. She asks me if I do the same. What should I tell her? "No, I usually try to parse sentences"?

But yes, I do love when we're right there as the readers, as confused and struggling as the characters themselves. And while I love happy endings as much as the next fan, there's something real about slightly messy ambiguity.
