I can pinpoint the exact line: When she’s finally done, heavy silence falling between them, he pushes off the ground, reaching down to pull her up to her feet. He holds her there a moment, his jaw clenched.

“I should have been here,” he says.

It's just so... Jack. And Sam. They watch out for each other. They protect each other. Even if they weren't together romantically, they'd still do that. Gah I love them, and this story.

I especially like how you started this part with both Rodney and Ronon's povs of Jack and Sam. Rodney's minor jealousy and just general confusion over what Sam could see in Jack... was great. Especially Jennifer's smug assurance that Jack was Sam's type. Nice "Trio" reference!

I love your thoughtful Ronon... the way he's aware of much more than he seems, and this quiet respect for Sam that slips into his observations. And Sam -- I'm so proud of her for doing the right thing, even though it killed her. And even more, she opened up to Jack, finally, and he was there for her. They're such a grown up couple! heh.

I'm glad he got the chance to be there for her now, even if he couldn't rescue her or stop her from being taken. I'm looking forward to the next part.

p.s.-- I totally miss Daniel and Teal'c. I think seeing the other Atlantis characters observe Jack and Sam made me miss the rest of the team.
