Things That Suck

+Writer's block.
+The teevee seasons all drawing to a close.
+94% finished fics that refuse to just finish themselves.
+People at my job who try to make their problems my fault and won't take no for an answer (or STFU, sadly).
+Ficathon guilt that keeps me from writing anything else, even when I have stories demanding to be written.
+108 degrees? REALLY?
+Not being able to leave comments in posts because they want me to go to dreamwidth to do it instead.
+Twitter.
+July and Leverage are too far away.
+ABC (YES, YOU HEARD ME ABC. THERE IS A SPECIAL RING OF HELL FOR PEOPLE LIKE YOU.)
+The fact that my black widow curse has hit yet another teevee show. (And just for the record, I wasn't watching TSCC, so you can't blame that one on me. Even though I agree, that sucks.)
+No more Delahoy.

RIP, Unusuals. You deserved better than my curse.

Okay, and because as cynical and bitchy as I am, I feel guilty leaving nothing but suckage behind to leak into the internets, a few things that don't suck:

Leverage Fics:
We're all Mad Here by [info]entangled_now  (Team, gen)
Falling by [info]ijemanja  (Parker, Sophie, gen)
The Birthday Party Job by [info]asimaiyat  (Hardison, tiny smidge Hardison/Parker)

SGA Fics:
As a Tree Grows by [info]poisontaster  (Katie Brown, gen)

SG-1 Fics:
Like Coming Home by [livejournal.com profile] featherjean  (Sam Carter, Sam/Jack, Team)
Theory of Flight by [livejournal.com profile] lyssie  (Sam/Jack)
Build Your Walls, I'll Tear Them Down Brick By Brick by [livejournal.com profile] kellifer  (Daniel/Vala)

And, completely out of character, but how about an original short story by one of my favorite authors?
Salem by Robert Olen Butler
(God, I wish I could write like this man.)

Not being able to leave comments in posts because they want me to go to dreamwidth to do it instead.

If it's a "do not want to touch dreamwidth" thing than ignore this. But if it's not, setting up an OpenID there is super duper easy and just uses your current LJ account and will let you comment. Also, so long as the person allows anonymous comments you can comment anyway. In addition, if you want a dreamwidth account, I have invite codes burning a hole in my pocket. Mostly, if you want to be "able" to, it's easy. If it's a personal preference thing, I can't help.

*hugs* on the rest. But! You should now watch SCC since your curse can't make things worse and it's awesome chicks kicking ass!

*joins you in hiding from ficathons and half-finished fic*

[identity profile] annerbhp.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, it's just a personal preference thing. I even do have an account (Kat made me), but I have no energy or interest at the moment, and it just makes me grumpy that I can't comment as I like on my LJ flist anymore. But, yes, this is just grumpiness, I know. I FEAR CHANGE. Lol.

Yes to TSCC, since I have heard that even though everyone wanted MOAR, it does at least end satisfyingly, ie. no cliff hanger or anything?

God, I want this Teal'c fic done. NOW. *cries like a grumpy baby*

[identity profile] abyssinia4077.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, fair enough. If you leave yourself logged in to DW and the other person has comment-making set up nicely, it takes just as many clicks to comment on DW-only as LJ, but I totally understand being lazy and grumpy about it.

And I totally understand fearing change. honestly, I'd probably move to DW entirely but I don't want to lose any LJ people, so I'm in this weird straddling land instead. Eh. Whatever.

Yes to TSCC, since I have heard that even though everyone wanted MOAR, it does at least end satisfyingly, ie. no cliff hanger or anything?

Um. I wouldn't say it's not a cliffhanger, but it's not one that has me FREAKING OUT about the ending. Just one that is leaving me craving more story.

Um. *waves magic wand at your Teal'c fic*

[identity profile] a-loquita.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww, sorry for the things that suck, especially job-related suck and that the tv seasons are all ending (although, Burn Notice is coming back in a few weeks). And Leverage fic recs are FTW! Thanks!

[identity profile] annerbhp.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. I have to console myself with Leverage. And Castle being renewed! And Fringe, though...I might have swapped that for The Unusuals. Now if only this Teal'c fic could get out of my brain so I can get back to ending the world and Sam/Jack. ;)

[identity profile] meoinya.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmm, yes, yes, ending the world and Sam and Jack, I'm waiting anxiously for those! LOL!

Teal'c? Well, just have him tortured by someone with glowy eyeballs! LOL!

[identity profile] pataka02.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Why can't Amber Tamblyn be in a show that won't be canceled? Sad. At least they're running the last few eps!

Though I have to say, I was really irked by Walsh's decision to keep Cole's actions a secret... the dude was complicit in his former partner's murder! And the cover up! I kind of lost complete respect for him. I get the whole cop code thing, but then adding in the whole "my girlfriend who was shot is looking forward to going to your wedding thing"... bleah. I just didn't agree with his actions at all.

[identity profile] annerbhp.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I KNOW! Joan of Arcadia should have taught us a lesson. But mostly I mourn Delahoy. Which surprises me.

Yeah, Walsh's cover up was surprising, but honestly, I'm not watching the show for him, so I sort of handwaved it.

[identity profile] pataka02.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Delahoy was awesome, it's true. I would've liked to see what happened.

I liked Walsh in the beginning -- found him kind of interesting, but he definitely disappointed me as a character. I just can't abide by his actions. The only ones I really watch for are Delahoy and Casey... though the rest are amusing.

[identity profile] carter-sg-1.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
what! awww maaaaaaaaaan! and i just got used to these guys... *sulk*

*hug*

[identity profile] annerbhp.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! How much does this suck? It's always the ones I love that get cut down. It makes me wonder what's wrong with the rest of the world that they aren't watching! At least we know that we two are sane. ;)

[identity profile] carter-sg-1.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
It sucks on oh so many levels - and even more cause it happens really often to me too :(

it's because we are deep - the rest of the World has a hard time trying to keep up with our sharp wit ;)

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/traycer_/ 2009-05-18 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Ficathon guilt that keeps me from writing anything else, even when I have stories demanding to be written.

Yeah, me too. Three posted WIPs that people want a completion to and I can't even think of working on them until I get the ficathon entries done. And I keep signing up for more!! *sigh* I think that this is an illness. Like gambling.

And just so you know, I've been looking for somebody to blame for TSCC. :)

[identity profile] annerbhp.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! The WIP guilt is layering on top of the ficathon guilt and it is paralyzing me. Which is completely counter-productive.

At least I haven't been insane enough to sign up for more! ;)

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/traycer_/ 2009-05-18 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! There you go again calling me insane again. You'd think I was used to it by now. :)

In my defense, I am running the ficathon. I have to sign up for it!

[identity profile] annerbhp.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
Well, only the best kind of insanity. ;)

[identity profile] scifithinker.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
It's hard to regret the things that suck when they come with fic. Good fic at that. Thanks for the recs. Hope the suckage goes away soon.

[identity profile] annerbhp.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, we must find consolation where we can. There will always be kick ass fic. :)

My WIPs are trying to make me feel guilty but I'm ignoring them out of spite.

*take that beer-drinking-colonels-fic! And you too Cassie-Janet-adventure-fic! See, what's this I'm holding? It's called a novel. A paper novel. Ha! And you know what, Wip? I can read it anywhere. And look. I've got a second one. Ah ha! I don't need your silly laptop with your messy power cables and your clicking keys trying to tempt me to put my fingers on them*

ahem. Good luck.

[identity profile] annerbhp.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Too bad WIPs tend to produce uncontrollable sequels and spin off if they are ignored too long. I wouldn't leave that beer drinking colonels fic too close to the Cassie and Janet fic. The possibilities are frankly frightening.

+Ficathon guilt that keeps me from writing anything else, even when I have stories demanding to be written.

I thought we solved this already and the answer is ICE CREAM!
ext_2131: picture of a fish with lots of green (Default)

[identity profile] holdouttrout.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Is THAT the answer? *goes to buy ice cream*

[identity profile] katcorvi.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, the answer is ICE CREAM! And all this time you thought it was 42. *g*

[identity profile] annerbhp.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Well, now you're talking. 42 cartons of ice cream just *might* be the answer.

[identity profile] annerbhp.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
She has convinced herself that if I have Teal'c and Bra'tac eat ice cream, that will erase my gaping plot hole. Ah, to be so naive. :P
ext_2131: picture of a fish with lots of green (Default)

[identity profile] holdouttrout.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
And here I thought *I* was the one supposed to eat the ice cream.

*shakes head*

[identity profile] katcorvi.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
You, my pet, can eat all the ice cream you like. ::passes you the organic vanilla to die for::

[identity profile] katcorvi.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
Hey! There's more to it than just Jaffa eating ice cream. There's like nation building and important Jaffa exposition and stuff. It definitely moves the plot forward.

[identity profile] meoinya.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
So - what can we do to help your fic blockage? I'm ready, willing and able *offers a sloppy salute* to help in any way I can! :)

Agreed on the twitter/dreamwidth thing. Not signing up for any other useless blog-like thing.

Your S/J fic recs were lovely. I hadn't read either one of them! Yours are still better, but, since there haven't been any new ones lately *wipes away a tear*, I very much enjoyed the ones you rec'ed.

Don't care about Dollhouse or Chuck being renewed. Don't like either of them. Like Castle and I liked TSCC, so am disapointed about the latter being canceled.

*tries to shake the block out of the writer*

[identity profile] annerbhp.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I think finishing this damn ficathon piece will clear things up nicely. I am adding a sentence or two a day, so that should only take...the rest of my life. Lol.

I am excited about Castle!

YES. Thank you. I feel like the grinch who kicked the cool user-developed platform, but it's just how I feel. Grumpy, that's me.

I am sad about the Unusuals and I haven't even seen all the eps yet!

[identity profile] annerbhp.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Woe is us. I think this may do it for me. No more falling in love with strange programs in their first season. It only leads to getting my heart stomped on. *tear*

[identity profile] kellifer-fic.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
N'awww... everytime I start getting a few comments on an older story I know somewhere, out there, someone has said something nice about it. :)

[identity profile] annerbhp.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
You know I love all your stuff (well, the ones in a fandom I know, lol), but this fic has always been one of my favorites because, well, in theory, I love Daniel/Vala. I really like their chemistry on the show, and I love what we got there, but for some reason, it just has never translated to fic for me. Maybe this is because it always seems like Vala is pasteurized, or Daniel is turned into this schmoopy clone, but your fic, it's the first fic (and possibly only) that really translated and was even better than what we got on screen. I just love your version of them. And now I've written a diatribe, but that has just been one of the great mysteries of my fannish experience, why Daniel/Vala fic doesn't work for me. Well, thank goodness for you. ;)

[identity profile] dimizo.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
Television definitely sucks in Australia - we have never seen Leverage or The Unusuals or TSCC (although now that TSCC has been cancelled, we will probably get it). We saw Fringe for a few weeks, but they kept changing the timeslot and it got lost in the shuffle, Burn Notice is great but it's finished at the moment and Castle started 2 nights ago and I really enjoyed it (so that means it will probably disappear shortly). We haven't even seen Season 5 of SGA on teevee yet(thank goodness for DVD's). So, maybe take a visit down under as there aren't too many distractions for you at present and maybe you can get a new slant on Teal'c & Wreckage. Just a thought....!

[identity profile] annerbhp.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it is rather frustrating how many things have gone global (internets and imperialistic fast food), but there is this artificial time lag on things like television and movies and such and I know it must be that way because somehow someone is making more money that way, but it just doesn't make sense to me. Not in this day and age. Not when we are all here sharing and squeeing and are just a few keystrokes away from each other. Very weird. Hopefully it will resolve itself someday soon!

As far as the languishing WIPs, ironically, the more time I have, the less writing I get done. I have no idea why. Bleh. But I will stay positive! :)

[identity profile] jeanniewal.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Wow - totally off comment topics here, but Thank You for the rec to Robert Olen Butler. That story is going to colour my day now; I'll be reading more of his stuff.

And, just for the record, a fair old number of your fics have coloured various days of mine in the past too. Don't be putting down your writing to me!!

In South Africa we have had Fringe... and that's pretty much it out of the list you mentioned. I'm just grateful we got Sanctuary, being more than just a little bit in fangirl love with AT

[identity profile] annerbhp.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I am so glad you liked Robert Olen Butler! Ever since I took my first creative writing class a few years ago, that was the author that totally blew me away. He has a collection of short stories called 'A Good Scent From a Strange Mountain'. He's been a huge inspiration to me. And thank you for your kind words, you're making me all warm and fuzzy. :D

[identity profile] siggy63.livejournal.com 2009-05-20 09:25 am (UTC)(link)
{{{{hugs annerb}}}}} I feel your pain.

I've been enjoying 'Fringe' even though the title music is such an XF ripoff. I do like the characters. Dollhouse started over here yesterday and I can see that becoming a regular watch.

No doubt you'll get your mojo back. Someone with your talent is never without it for too long.
