I'm feeling strangely listless this week. I was prepared for fannish overload, but maybe it is pre-series end depression that keeps me from watching my favorite episodes and posting comments to all of the super cool fannish love posts that are going on everywhere. I can't even settle to writing and I'm feeling stupidly overwhelmed, like if I don't finish these fics before I watch the last episode I may never get them done. Maybe I just need reassurance from some of you vets that fandom doesn't dry up and die the moment the last ep airs (and yes, I know there will be movies and such, but still).
Well, here is the fic list. Fics I am determined to finish. Someday. (roughly in order of how finished they are)
1. String Theory. It's going well, overall, I just can't get through the next bit right now.
2. Moebius Inversion. Original SG-1 in Egypt. I must finish this one. I have the first two parts beta'd and done. Just have to finish part three.
3. Siren. Sam. Vala. Space Pirates. Need I say more? I have been dying to get to this one, but I sort of promised myself I would finish String Theory first. But I'm just itching to give this one some serious writing time. I mean, Vala gets to call someone a manwhore. It's solid gold.
4.Serendipity. This is the tentative title for my
sjficathon entry. I'm kind of stupidly in love with this one. Sam and Jack from a non-angsty angle and I can't say anything more without giving too much away. But Jack gets snarky and Sam good naturedly rolls her eyes in long suffering annoyance. Done!
5.Splintered. Super-dark, Sam whumping, Jack whumping, H/C epic. The one I have been teasing Strix with for ages. MUST WRITE THIS! Down Here Among The Wreckage
6. Tides. Sam/Teal'c fic for
siggy63 and
lorettakay. Birthday fic guilt usually works really well on me. Plus, this is something I have never tried before. New shinys are usually easier to finish.
7. Relativity. Quantum Mirror fic. Even though I swore I would never write one of these. Heavy on the S/J.
8.Kat's Fic. Though I have been teasing
katcorvi with a Celine Dion songfic, I actually have something else in the works for her. And for once, it's not crack. Who would have thought. But it does include Daniel making another alien conquest of the female variety. And little kids using Teal'c as a jungle gym.
9. Sequels. At some point I seriously considered sequels for Outside the Lines, Out of Context, Egeria's Legacy, and Exodus. I'm not holding my breath.
10.Beneath the Stains of Time. Apocafic for
apocalypse_kree. Nothing more than whispers in the back of my mind, currently. But I took a general prompt and so have endless choices. Haven't even decided what 'ships I may or may not include. Done!
11. The Tricky One. This is a season four fic I started years ago. I think I have accepted that I will never write it, but I have much love and did a crap load of research for it (like reading real books and everything!). It was supposed to be my next big, long, involved, mythological fic after As the Gate Turns, but then Outside the Lines ate my brain and it got shoved off to the side.
Well, there's the list. I will not abandon SG-1 fandom until they are all done! (Oy. I'll be 109 years old, waxing poetic about the good ole days to young'uns who are like 'you used to have to type? The internet is sooooo old skool.' And I'll moan about the youth of today having no culture or work ethic.)

I'd be curious as to your ideas for Sam and Vala pirate fic...because this has also struck my brain as a Very Good Idea. I may have the odd notion that Sam gets stuck off-world when taken over by Jolinar and might meet up with Vala or something like that...and I may possibly have this crazy idea I'm not sure about in breaking up the OTP.
*blinks at notion that Sam/Jack don't end up together happily in love with 2.5 kids and a dog*
In unrelated news...
*is fuming at sam/jack list.*
(no subject)
If it makes you feel better about breaking up the OTP, just think of it as an AU. *Of Course* the Sam and Jack in this reality are happily together. But it doesn't mean it didn't work out differently somewhere else. Maybe Jack died or something. Sniff. Or she never met him. :)
Oh, dude, do share. What are the batshit insane up to these days? I need some entertainment.
(no subject)
Also, her character post-threads sucks and is only around so she can say all the technical lines the boys can't remember.
Of course, there was the summary dismissal of all her other romantic interests as lunatics and/or jerks, and I am just surprised that they didn't mention incest. (Oh wait, they did that last week).
I have a rant I want to post, but it will do no good, so I'm sitting on it. (I know fandom's been here before, so I'm completely okay with not stirring things up any more than they already are).
(no subject)
I actually had to cut myself off cold turkey a while back, they were driving me completely insane. You have the friendlier climes of LJ now to fill your fannish needs. Not that the sjlist can't, say, provide entertainment every once and a while.
But posting a little something on your journal saying why Sam isn't a giant waste of space now that Jack is gone wouldn't hurt. And it might make you feel better. :)
(no subject)
It's true. I'll have to do this once I've settled down a bit.
(no subject)
Ah yes, the list that almost made me hate my own OTP. There were a few very logical and well-spoken people involved that should really move to LJ and forget about that list...

Yes. And the incest thing...it's so unfounded!

I've been lulled into watching Stargate SG1 from the beginning, but other than that, I can't work up any strong feeling for the finale. But YAY! for your determination to finish all your SG1 fic. I eagerly await your offerings.

Trust me, fandom doesn't dry up after the last eps air. At least not fandoms with dedicated fans, and I think Stargate has many dedicated fans. I mean, my first fandom was a show that finished airing nearly five years before I even got into it, and it was nowhere near dead by the time I got there. It's still going strong and it's been two years since I've written for it! I think SG-1 will be okay ^_^
(no subject)
I don't think I'll be able to hold off on Siren much longer. I'll see what I can do. Hehe.
(no subject)
OMG! What do you need me to do so you CAN write this? Should I drive out there, and I can get you coffee and run errands so you can sit and type??
And what the HELL? Why are you even mentioning abandoning the SG-1 fandom?? Nooooo! *clings*
I'm getting all maudlin over the end too, but I think fandom will go on a good long time after even the movies cease to appear. Like decades. Look at all the excellent people coming into fandom right now! Look at all the excellent Sam/Jack people who have found us lately!
(no subject)
Splintered....yes. Must work on that one. But seeing as how I don't even have an ending dreamt up yet....might take a bit. And these darn ficathons that I am incapable of saying no to! My new kryptonite apparently.
I should have a writing retreat for everyone. The backyard is looking awfully shady and inviting right now. Did I mention S'Mores?
(no subject)
I'll be sticking around in this fandom for awhile, assuming they don't kill off Sam. Too many wonderful, interesting people in this fandom to abandon it anytime soon.
Star Trek fandom is still going strong, so...

I'm so hitherthitherandyon about the series ending tomorrow night. I'm eager to see what they do and I'm very unspoiled for it, and yet I don't want it to be over. Yeah, the movies will be full of squee and a chance to hum online about all the glee, but it's not the same.
The XF fandom is still going strong, but it's true that I rarely discuss the show or read the fic anymore. I do keep up with good friends I made there, mostly thru LJ, but also via email. Every now and again I read some fic or catch an ep and I am struck by how wonderful the show is. I'm sure I'll follow that pattern with SG1, but I know I'll be reading String Theory for as long as you're posting it.
(no subject)
I am unbelievably unspoiled. I'm fairly astounded that I managed it. I've even given up watching the "Next week on Stargate" blurb which makes each episode that much more enjoyable because I have no idea what might appear. I must be the only person still surprised when Jack randomly shows up for episodes. I just squee at the screen and my cats scatter for cover.
Looking forward to discussing the final ep with you tomorrow! (Do you have iChat set up yet?)
(no subject)
If you squee when Jack shows up, well, that explains the echo because I squee, too. I really hope he's there tomorrow, but I don't hold out great hope.
(no subject)
As for tomorrow, I have zero expectations of anything, so I am hoping that leaves a wide open door for being pleasantly surprised.

Ok, if I do figure this out, don't I need to know yours and Annerb's sekrit IM names?

Your list of fics looks very exciting. You should write all of them! :) (and no leaving the fandom! There's much, much, much more sand for us to play with)
now I'm tempted to do my own WiP list only....I think it would scare me.
(no subject)
No plans on leaving fandom, I have no where else to go! I simply meant that even if I do find something else, say, in the next decade or so, I still have to finish all of this! :)
Go for your own WIP list, even if to only make me feel better. Heheh.
(no subject)
Hee! So even if you find another fandom, we still get to keep you around here. I'm good with that!
I can do that. *ponders list*
(no subject)
Maybe that is another reason to write fic. We can create our own happy endings where idiots like Kinsey get snakes in their heads and kicked out the proverbial air lock.
(no subject)
It was actually funny this morning - I was getting ready for work, came downstairs, saw the headline that pissed me off and slammed my water bottle on the table. My mom looked up and said she was going to hide the paper so I couldn't see it before I left cause she didn't want me starting the day in a bad mood. Oops.
DEFINITELY a good reason to write fic :) (and, maybe in fic-world there'll be a president who supports scientific funding that isn't defense related and...*right. not ranting*)
(no subject)
Hahahaha. Hahaha. *wipes eyes* Hahaha. *clutches sides*
Oh, wait, you were serious. A president who supports scientific funding and the environment.
Sounds like someone's been drinking. Pass some of that my way pretty please. ;)

*dreams really hard*
*passes flask*
(maybe if we pass the flask to enough people it'll happen?)

I had my list up on my journal, but took it down and put it in my WIP journal. Maybe I should update it and put it back where it was in the first place. A little teaser is always good, and since it's longer than yours, I'll be sitting on the rocking chair right next to yours trying to figure out them newfangled contraptions the younger generation is using to communicate. :)
(no subject)
You have a separate journal just for your WIPs? Wow. I bow to your WIP superiority! Good to know I'll have a rocking chair buddy. :D
(no subject)
My WIP journal was started because I needed something to help me keep track of everything, especially since I have a tendency to write a snippet here and a scenario there. I'm never sure if I will ever use a particular snippet/scenario, but it might come in handy somewhere and now I have a place to store it, and with tags, be able to either read it later and maybe come up with yet another plot or be able to find it down the road when I need it. Besides, the journal also works as an excellent backup system, which of course, is really important stuff. :)
We'll keep on plugging away on our fic and encourage others to sit with us in the spare rocking chairs. I'm sure there will be a whole lot of people joining us.

Oh, and welcome back to the land of El Jay!
:D
Thanks. I really do lurve my flist. Eljay = Love

They'll have to prise me away with a series of focused explosions. Which, you know, my rl peeps may well be contemplating, given the amount of time and effort I spend on Stargate...
I sort of strangely love the idea that String Theory is going to go on, and on, and on, for a good while. It gives me something to look forward to. Also, Siren sounds fantastic. *g*

Don't worry. I still have love of shows that ended YEARS ago, many years ago *cough*1994*cough* and write a little here and there. But I've always written that way. I'm sure you'll stay going strong! :D
